What is Royal Jelly?

Royal jelly is a nutritious and natural bee product that is white, creamy, and has a sharp smell and a sour taste. Worker bees produce it from their pharyngeal glands to feed the larvae and the queen bee in the hive. Royal jelly contains proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins of A, D, E, and B-complex, and magnesium, iron, and zinc minerals. It also includes exclusive components such as 10-HDA and Royalactin that are not found in other foods.

How is Royal Jelly Produced?

The raw material of royal jelly is pollen, water, and honey. Young worker bees consume and digest pollen, which is then used to produce royal jelly in their pharyngeal glands and is fed to the queen bee. The jelly is in a liquid form at this stage and later thickens.

How is Royal Jelly Obtained?

Royal jelly is harvested during the spring and summer months. After safely removing the queen bee, eggs and larvae are left in the honeycomb. Worker bees fill these combs with royal jelly to feed the new queen bee. Only 20-25 grams of royal jelly can be obtained from one hive within a month. Proper storage conditions are also crucial after obtaining royal jelly.

How is Royal Jelly Stored?

Fresh royal jelly should be stored in a refrigerator at +4°C. Mixtures of royal jelly with raw honey and propolis should be stored in a dry environment at room temperature (approximately 22°C).

How is Royal Jelly Consumed?

Royal jelly can be consumed together with raw honey and propolis. Alternatively, it can be consumed in its pure form as fresh royal jelly. It is recommended that children over the age of 4 consume a quarter to half a teaspoon of fresh royal jelly per day on an empty stomach, while adults over the age of 11 consume half to one teaspoon per day. Children are also recommended to consume at least one teaspoon of mixtures of royal jelly with raw honey, and adults consume at least one teaspoon per day, either directly or with bread. These natural products can also be applied to the skin as a mask twice a week to support skin beauty.
